NOTICE
NOW HIRING DEPUTY SHERIFF
The Wirt County Sheriff Department will be accepting applications for the position of Deputy
Sheriff to establish an applicant eligibility list. Applications may be obtained from the Wirt County
Sheriff Department or the Wirt County Clerk’s office located at the Wirt County Courthouse at 19
Washington Street, Elizabeth, WV, Monday thru Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Starting salary uncertified: $43,800.00/ year.
Starting salary certified: $45,000.00/ year.
A new hire deputy shall receive vacation time, sick leave, salary increments, 100% paid* health insurance for the
new hire, and shall be provided uniforms and equipment needed. Vehicle usage shall be upon the
determination of the sheriff on the completion of the probationary period.
REQUIREMENTS:
US Citizen
State of WV Citizen
Be 18-45 years of age
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Valid WV Driver’s License
No Felony, Domestic or violent crime convictions
MUST PASS:
State Physical Fitness requirements
Civil Service Entry Examination with a score of 70 percent or better
Extensive Background Check
Polygraph and Psychological testing
Medical Examination and Drug Screening
Tattoos must be able to be covered by a standard long sleeve uniform.
Unless certified in the State of West Virginia and in good standing, the individual shall attend and
successfully complete the mandated basic training class at the West Virginia State Police Academy.
Applications must be filed with the Wirt County Clerk’s office prior to 4 p.m., Monday, June 20th, 2022.
Required physical agility testing is to be Saturday, January 25th, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. At the Elizabeth/ Wirt VFD
located at 91 Schoolview Street in the Town of Elizabeth, WV. Date and time of written examination
to be that day or announced.
